Menstrual Pad Distribution at the Child Care Home, Kolkata

Date: Feb 22, 2025

On February 22, 2025, The CHINI Trust distributed menstrual hygiene products to the young girls residing at the Child Care Home, Kolkata. A total of 2,625 menstrual pads were distributed to the 39 girls currently residing in the Child Care Home.  The Child Care Home, run by the Women's Interlink Foundation, is located in Salt Lake, Kolkata, serves as a rehabilitation and mainstreaming center for lost, abandoned, and trafficked girls from shelter homes under the Juvenile Justice Act, 2000. Many of these girls come with neurodivergence and attend special schools. Through education, skill training, employment, and income-generation programs, the Home empowers these girls to become independent and self-sufficient.

The distribution of menstrual pads is a crucial step in promoting menstrual health and hygiene for the girls. It ensures that they have access to essential hygiene products, allowing them to manage their periods with dignity and confidence. Additionally, this initiative helped raise awareness about menstrual health, breaking social taboos and fostering a sense of empowerment among the girls.

The pads were distributed to the girls by Mr. Arnab Chaudhuri, Mr. Suprakash Das, Mr. Paul Ferry from Will Ferry Soccer School and Dr. Nayan Mitra (President of the Trust). At the end of the distribution, the members and the girls shared ice-cream with an internal promise to prioritize health, hygiene and well-being. The CHINI Trust and its partners remain committed to supporting such initiatives, ensuring that every girl has access to the resources she needs to lead a healthy and dignified life.
